Roy is the veteran director of the Berg Newspapers office in Stohess District, a mustachioed man in a newsboy cap who long ago traded the ambition of telling the truth for the safety of his family. He prints what the government allows, and knows exactly what that costs him.
The Interview That Stops Short
In Trost District, Roy questions Nile Dok about the civilian the Survey Corps supposedly murdered. When his junior reaches the Interior Police, Roy takes the notebook out of his hands, apologises for the rookie, and promises the commander that nothing about that branch will ever reach print.
Witness to Flegel's Stand
Roy is among the onlookers when Flegel Reeves forces the Interior Police to confess in the middle of the street and declares himself head of the Reeves Company. For the first time, the story he is not allowed to write is happening in front of a crowd of witnesses.
The Story Finally Runs
The papers print what the Interior Police did: the murder of Dimo Reeves, the false charges, the corruption behind both. The Survey Corps is cleared in the eyes of the Walls, and the fear that had kept Roy's presses obedient turns out to have been the government's only real weapon.
Tea With the Scouts
With the truth about the world now public, Roy sits down with Hange Zoë and Levi and reports that the Walls have split: some believe it, some refuse to, some call it a plot. He admires that the Scouts publish what they find, then asks what becomes of them now.
