Peaure is the young reporter at the Berg Newspapers office in Stohess District, black-rimmed glasses under a flat cap, too new to the trade to have learned which questions are off-limits. He takes the duty of telling the truth literally, which makes him useless as a propagandist.
The Question Nobody Asks
Interviewing Nile Dok about the murdered merchant, Peaure works out aloud that the Interior Police must be involved — the one branch no paper is allowed to name. Roy confiscates his notebook mid-sentence and apologises for him, and the answer he had almost reached is buried.
The Crowd Becomes the Proof
Peaure watches Flegel Reeves corner the Interior Police in the open and hears them admit to killing his father. What the agency has spent years refusing to print is now testimony given in front of half of Trost, with a notebook in his hand.
The Truth in Print
The Berg presses finally run the story the Interior Police killed to bury: the murder of Dimo Reeves and the false charges against the Survey Corps. The Walls read it over breakfast, and the soldiers who were criminals the day before become free people.
The War Began Five Years Ago
Reading the Survey Corps' report, Peaure reaches the conclusion nobody wants: an enemy nation wants their land, and its attack did not start now. It started five years ago, the morning the Colossal Titan appeared over Shiganshina.
