The Hardening Trials
The strategy Hange proposed to Eren Yeager becomes daily labour: transform, attempt, fail, record. Session after session produces nothing but shapeless growths, and Hange measures, sketches and files every one of them while the plan to seal the breach in Wall Maria waits on an ability nobody knows how to summon on command. The research is patient. The government watching it is not.
Breaks Sannes
After Pastor Nick is tortured to death for guarding the Wall Church's secret, Hange turns the same methods on the captured Interior officer Djel Sannes until Moblit Berner intervenes. Sannes exposes the conspiracy: a true royal bloodline hidden behind the throne and men who kill to keep it buried. The curiosity once reserved for Titans now turns toward people, and it is no gentler.
Turns a Merchant into a Witness
Hange presses Flegel Reeves to become the voice his murdered father can no longer be, and the merchant's heir agrees to play his part in a public trap that forces the Interior Police to confess their crimes in front of a crowd. It is interrogation of another kind: the pressure is applied to an ally, and what it produces is a witness the government cannot silence quietly.
Brought Down in the Reiss Cavern
In the cavern beneath the Reiss Chapel, Hange fights Kenny's Anti-Personnel Control Squad and is read like a specimen. A gunner wastes two shots on purpose, Hange takes the opening, and an anchor goes through the shoulder: released mid-swing, Hange is flung into a pillar and falls. Moblit and Armin carry Hange out as Rod Reiss's transformation brings the rock down.
The Theory Proven at Orvud
At the Battle of Orvud District, Hange's observations become a plan of attack against Rod Reiss's Titan: a giant that cannot stand, dragging itself forward, its weak point reachable if a charge can be held against it. The hardening Hange first proposed during the Wall Rose crisis, failed to produce in months of trials and finally saw appear on its own in the Reiss cavern works to order on the day a district depends on it.
Weighs the Serum
After Historia's coronation, Hange studies the Titan serum recovered from Kenny with Erwin Smith, Levi and Darius Zackly. Able to turn a person into a Titan, it is both the regiment's most valuable and most dangerous possession. Erwin leaves the choice of using it to Levi, and Hange rides for Shiganshina District beside a regiment carrying a weapon nobody wants to need.
Leads the Thunder Spear Assault
At Shiganshina, Hange leads the first field assault with the weapon developed for this enemy: the Thunder Spear. Their squads blind the Armored Titan, strip the armor from its nape and attack again on Hange's command, proving that the regiment can finally break the defense that once seemed absolute.
Moblit Gives His Life
When Bertholdt transforms above Shiganshina, Moblit Berner sees the blast coming before Hange does. He throws his commander into a well and shields them with his own body. Hange survives burned and with one eye lost; the deputy who spent years pulling them back from danger does not.
Returns With the Last Thunder Spear
Scarred and half-blind, Hange returns to the battle just as the surviving Scouts' last plan against Reiner begins to fail. Hange uses the spear carried out of the blast to destroy the remaining hinge of the Armored Titan's jaw, opening the path for Mikasa to fire the final shot through its mouth.
The Fourteenth Commander
With Erwin Smith dead and almost the entire regiment lost, Hange becomes the fourteenth commander of the Scout Regiment. Their first command is not over an army but over nine survivors carrying the proof that humanity lives beyond the Walls, and the responsibility of deciding what that truth means now passes to them.
Three Years of Ports and Trains
A beached Marleyan ship turns into an alliance, and the commander who spent a career cutting Titans open spends the next three years learning shipping, rail and aviation from Onyankopon and the Volunteers. The same curiosity is now pointed at a different unknown: the wider world beyond the Walls.
Eren Has Lost Our Trust
Eren went into Liberio alone, made himself the bait and forced the regiment to come in after him, and the bill for it is Sasha and a war with every nation at once. Hange says it as a formal finding rather than an outburst: the regiment does not trust him any more, and the commander will not pretend otherwise.
Erwin's Only Mistake
After shouting at Eren through the bars of his cell and getting nothing back, Hange walks out into the corridor and says the quiet thing alone: that making Hange commander was the one mistake Erwin made before he died. Nobody hears it, and the job gets done anyway for another twenty episodes.
Into the River With Levi
The Yeagerists reach the forest first and find what a Thunder Spear left of Levi. With Zeke climbing whole out of a Titan's stomach and everyone watching that instead, Hange picks up the body of the strongest soldier on the island and goes over the bank into the water, and gets away with him.
The Question Put to Jean
Building an alliance out of people who have killed each other's friends takes one question, and Hange is the one who asks it: would the comrades they buried be glad that the whole world was drowned so that one island could live? Jean answers it, and the last army anybody raises against Eren exists.
Hange Held the Line at Odiha
The flying boat needs minutes it does not have and the Walls are already at Odiha. Hange hands the regiment to Armin, goes out alone against a horizon of Colossal Titans, and buys the minutes by taking them one at a time. The fourteenth commander of the Survey Corps dies exactly the way the thirteenth did.
