Hitch Dreyse is a sardonic, easygoing recruit of the Military Police and the roommate and partner of Annie Leonhart. Self-interested and quick with a jab, she nonetheless hides a sharper eye than her lazy manner suggests.
Annie's Partner
Hitch serves in the Military Police in the interior alongside Annie Leonhart, with whom she shares quarters. Her cynical, carefree manner stands in sharp contrast to Annie's cold detachment.
After Stohess
Following the Assault on Stohess, Hitch is left to wonder what became of Annie, unaware of the truth behind her partner's sudden disappearance.
Joins Levi's Squad
Alongside Marlo Freudenberg, Hitch agrees to assist Levi and his allies during The Uprising. Although she is reluctant to become involved, she chooses to help the investigation instead of remaining on the sidelines.
Tries to Stop Marlo from Enlisting
When Marlo Freudenberg decides to transfer to the Scout Regiment, Hitch bluntly tells him the choice is foolish. Beneath her sarcasm lies genuine concern, as she struggles to accept the risk he is willing to take.
Hears How Marlo Died
Hitch comes to the ceremony honoring the nine survivors of Shiganshina and asks where Marlo is. Floch tells her that Marlo kept the terrified recruits moving after Erwin fell, but also that he must have regretted enlisting before the stones killed him. Hearing what his final moments were like leaves Hitch unable to hide what his absence means to her.
Four Years Talking to a Crystal
Her posting after Stohess is a cellar with a lump of crystal in it and a former comrade inside the lump. She keeps the watch for four years and she talks to it — about nothing, about the war, about the fact that the person in there does not have to listen. When the crystal finally cracks, Annie has heard all of it.
They Talked Instead of Fighting
Annie comes out of the crystal starving and unsteady, and Hitch takes her down and disarms her in seconds. Then, instead of raising the alarm, she asks the question: was any of it worth what it cost in Stohess? What she gets back is a girl who only wants to get home to her father, and she decides that is worth hearing.
She Went for Refreshments
She rides Annie into Shiganshina in the middle of a festival, sits her down to eat and goes off to get them both something to drink. She comes back to an empty seat and a note: Annie has gone with Armin and Connie. That is the last Hitch sees of her.
