Annie Leonhart is a withdrawn and self-contained recruit whose small, unassuming frame conceals a practiced proficiency in close-quarters combat. Assigned to the ranks of the The 104th Cadet Corps, she keeps to herself and meets most others with a guarded, almost indifferent manner. Training reports emphasize her precise, efficient movements and a cold calm that unnerves more talkative comrades.
The Titan and the Clock
The selection that hands four Titans to four children gives her the Female Titan, and gives her father an Honorary Marleyan seat the same week — which is what the training since she was four was for. What none of the four are told plainly is that the power comes with a date: thirteen years, and then it goes to whoever is standing closest.
Loses Marcel on Paradis
Soon after the Warriors reach Paradis, the Pure Titan that was once Ymir attacks their camp. Annie sees Marcel push Reiner clear and disappear into the Titan's jaws before any of them can intervene. Their group loses one of its four members on its first night, leaving Annie to continue toward the Walls with only Reiner and Bertholdt.
Takes Marco's Gear
When Marco overhears the Warriors' secret in Trost, Reiner restrains him and turns on Annie. He cites her earlier rescue of Connie as proof that she has grown too close to their comrades, then orders her to show where her loyalty lies by removing Marco's maneuvering gear. Annie hesitates but obeys, leaving Marco defenseless before an approaching Titan. She watches him be devoured alongside Reiner and Bertholdt, weeping only after the choice can no longer be undone.
Entry into the Military Police
After graduating among the top cadets of The 104th Cadet Corps, Annie Leonhart chooses the Military Police and takes a position within the interior walls. The decision matches the reward promised to elite recruits: distance from the outer districts, greater security, and service under the authority that protects the heart of human territory.
Killing Hange's Captured Titans
Annie Leonhart is identified as the one who killed the two captured Titans under Hange Zoë's investigation. The act destroys a rare opportunity to study living Titans within the walls and strengthens the case against her as a hidden enemy operating from inside the military.
Operation in Stohess District
During Assault on Stohess, Annie Leonhart is lured into a planned operation designed to expose the identity of the Female Titan. When the trap closes around her, she reveals her ability to transform, confirming the suspicions raised after the 57th Expedition Outside the Walls.
Battle against the Attack Titan
Within Stohess District, Annie Leonhart fights Eren Yeager in Titan form as the Military Police and the Scout Regiment struggle to contain the devastation. When capture becomes unavoidable, she seals herself inside a hardened crystal, denying her enemies the chance to interrogate her.
Four Years Awake
The crystal was never sleep. She spends four years conscious inside it in a cellar under Trost, listening to the guard who talks to it out of boredom and then out of habit. The week the Walls walk, it comes apart from the inside. What steps out of it says she is finished fighting for anybody's cause and wants one thing: to reach her father.
The Seat She Left Empty
Hitch rides her into Shiganshina in the middle of a festival, sits her down to eat and goes off to fetch them both a drink. She comes back to an empty seat and a note. The first thing Annie does with four years of freedom is walk back into the war she has just refused, with Armin and Connie.
The Thing Nobody Would Say
At the campfire she is four years out of the world and has no interest in being polite about it, so she says the thing the whole meal is built on avoiding: when the moment comes, the people who grew up with Eren will not be able to kill him. She is the only one at that fire with no friendship to protect.
The First Cut in Four Years
She cuts her hand for the first time since Stohess to help take a port off the island's own army. The Titan that killed a generation of Scouts stands in a Paradis harbour beside the Armored Titan, covering the mechanics repairing the aircraft that will chase Eren. Nobody there tries to put her back in a crystal for it.
She Was Not Getting On
At Odiha she refuses the flying boat. Conscripted at four, four more years awake inside a crystal, and what she wants now is to find her father and be nothing to anybody. Nobody argues with her: Reiner asks her instead to stay on the ship and keep Gabi and Falco alive. The aircraft leaves without her.
She Came Anyway
What arrives over Fort Salta behind the Armored Titan is something nobody has a name for: Falco's Jaw Titan came out with wings, and it is carrying her and Gabi to the fight after all. She changed her mind on a ship, hundreds of kilometres away, with nobody left there to talk her into it.
The Crowd Her Father Was In
The Eldians of Liberio are at the fort, her father among them, and the gas coming off Eren's Titan reaches him before she does. The reunion she crossed the world for turns into a line held with Reiner and Pieck against a crowd that was her father's crowd a minute earlier.
She Kept the Promise
The power of the Titans ends and the Titans standing at Fort Salta are people again. Her father finds her in the crowd and holds her, thirteen years after the day he stopped being her trainer and asked her for one thing: to come home. She got back by fighting for the island she was sent to destroy, which is not how either of them pictured it.
The Warrior Who Sailed Back
Three years later she crosses to Paradis again, this time as an ambassador for the countries the Rumbling walked over. The first crossing was made to break the Walls and cost her four years in a cellar under Trost. The queen is waiting on the shore with an army behind her and terms to discuss.
