Floch Forster is one of the recruits who answered the call after the coup, a red-haired soldier with none of the veterans' battles behind him and all of their expectations ahead. Eager in the mess hall and honest to the point of cruelty, he says aloud what better soldiers keep to themselves.
The Recruit at Jean's Table
On the night of the red-meat dinner, Floch leaves his own table to ask Jean Kirstein whether he considers himself a veteran now. The recruits are as impatient as anyone in the Walls to take back Wall Maria; not one of them has ever seen a Titan.
No One Rides Them Home
Left guarding the horses under the Beast Titan's bombardment, Floch breaks down when Marlo Freudenberg scolds him for losing one. He enlisted to be a brave soldier who protected people. Watching better soldiers vaporised by stones, all he can say is that nobody will be riding these horses home.
Won Over by Erwin
Told that the recruits will charge the Beast Titan to buy Levi his opening, Floch protests that dying obedient and dying disobedient mean the same thing. Erwin Smith agrees with him, then offers the only thing left: the meaning the next soldiers will give his death.
The One Who Got Up
Thrown from his horse during the charge, Floch wakes among the bodies of every recruit who rode with him and cannot explain why he is still breathing. He walks the field calling out for survivors, the last soldier of a formation that existed to be destroyed.
The Serum and the Demon
Floch climbs onto the rooftop with Erwin Smith alive on his back, straight into the argument over who receives the injection. He tells Levi that only a demon like the commander can beat the Titans, and holds Eren back by force while the choice is made.
Someone Has to Say It
At the ceremony for the fallen, Floch refuses to tell Hitch Dreyse that Marlo died without regrets, tells Armin that Erwin should have been revived, and accuses Jean and Connie of merely watching. Future recruits, he says, deserve to know what they are signing up for.
The Devil We Need
In the middle of the raid on Liberio he disobeys Jean and points at Eren's attack on the plaza. Their people did not die because they were weak, he argues; they died because they waited behind the Walls for somebody to come and kill them. He presents Eren's assault as the alternative: strike first or be killed.
The Faction Eren Asked For
Ten months before the Rumbling, Eren takes Floch aside and explains his plan: pretend to follow Zeke, gain full use of the Founder and attack every land beyond Paradis. Floch agrees and quietly recruits supporters within the military, forming the Yeagerists.
The Bomb in Zackly's Office
Darius Zackly is killed at his desk by a device nobody has claimed. When Eren walks out of a sealed cell that night, Floch is waiting with a count of his own men and an admission of who put the bomb there. The command of the island's military has been decapitated by its own soldiers, and the only person left to obey is Eren.
He Arrested the People Who Armed Them
The Rumbling starts and the first thing he does with it is turn on the Volunteers — the Marleyan defectors who spent three years handing the island aircraft, ports and serums. Yelena is made to round up her own people. Floch now treats anybody who is not from the island as an enemy.
The Execution in the Square
He offers Onyankopon honorary Eldian citizenship and gets refused, so he puts him and Yelena in front of a crowd to be shot, and gives the rifle to Jean to see which way he will go. Jean fires four times and misses four times. Then a Titan's mouth takes all three of them off the platform.
He Shot the Boat
He goes through a newly transformed Jaw Titan, a Cart Titan and Hange to reach the harbour, because the flying boat is the only thing that can still reach Eren and he intends to be the man who saved Eldia. He gets a shot into the fuel tank. Gabi puts a round into him from below and he goes off the mast into the sea.
The Last Thing He Said
He drags himself back to the hangar at Odiha to finish the boat off and Mikasa puts a harpoon through his throat. What he spends his last breath on is not defiance: he begs Hange and Jean to stop, to let it happen, because the Rumbling is monstrous and it is also the only future in which anyone on the island is alive.
