Marlo Freudenberg is an idealistic recruit of the Military Police, blunt and rigidly principled, who is disgusted by the corruption he sees among the interior soldiers and dreams of reforming the regiment from within.
A Soldier Against Corruption
As a Military Police recruit stationed in Stohess District, Marlo openly rejects the bribery and abuse he witnesses among his comrades. During the Assault on Stohess, he cooperates with the Survey Corps' preparations, revealing an honesty rare among the interior police.
Siding with the Survey Corps
When the Survey Corps is branded criminal and hunted by the Central Military Police, Marlo chooses to stand with them. He joins the effort to expose the corrupt Interior Police, working alongside Flegel Reeves and the Reeves Company.
Enlisting in the Survey Corps
After the uprising succeeds and Historia is crowned queen, Marlo formally enlists in the Survey Corps, trading the safety of the interior for a place on the front line against the Titans.
Rides in Erwin's Final Charge
Marlo rides with Erwin and the new recruits in the suicide charge against the Beast Titan, firing signal flares to hide Levi's approach. When Erwin falls, Marlo calls the next volley and keeps the line moving. As the stones reach him, his final thought is not of reform or glory but of Hitch, and what she might be doing at that moment.
