The Marleyan officer who commands the Eldian Unit — the man who decides which of Marley's Eldian children are trained, which are discarded, and which are handed one of the Nine. He despises them roughly as much as any Marleyan does, and he listens to them anyway when they are right.
Commander of the Eldian Unit
He has run the Warrior programme for over twenty years: he trains the children, ranks them, and decides which of them is worth a Titan. At Fort Slava he leads eight hundred Eldians against a fortress and refuses to spend his shifters on its anti-Titan guns, because a Titan lost is a decade lost — then lets Gabi Braun walk under those same guns with a bundle of grenades instead.
Titans Are Going Obsolete
With the war won, he says the thing the general staff does not want said: the world has caught up. Marley leaned on the Nine for a century and let other nations build the things that will make the Nine worthless — aircraft above all. He wants Marleyan conscription restored so that Marleyans learn again what a war costs, and he already suspects it is too late.
The House That Owns Marley
Summoned to headquarters to receive the visiting Tyburs, he is told privately what the family actually is: not Marley's richest Eldians but Marley's owners, who have spent a hundred years letting the nation do as it liked as penance. Willy asks for his cooperation and hands him the generalship. Magath's answer is a remark about the statue of the hero Helos — it is hollow.
He Agreed to Let Them Die
On the way to the plaza he tells Willy the truth of the plan: with the stage full and the front rows packed with officers as bait, he cannot protect anyone, and Willy will die. Willy points out that he has sent crowds of Eldians to their deaths before without complaining. Magath signs off on it, and puts a name to what they are — Eldians are devils, and so are we.
The First Shot of the Counterattack
The Attack Titan takes the stage, Willy and most of Marley's high command with it. His officers are still shouting reports at him when he raises his own rifle and fires — so that the record shows Marley struck first. Then he refuses to let his guns kill the thing: better it be devoured whole and the Founder brought home than the problem postponed by one more generation.
He Worked Out What Zeke Was
Sifting the wreckage of Liberio, he has the Beast Titan's remains dug out and finds limbs but no body. From that alone he concludes that Zeke left with the enemy and has been working with them for four years. He calls in what is left of the Warriors, tells them a global alliance will erase the island within six months — and is talked into attacking sooner.
The Shot That Took Eren Down
He parachutes into Shiganshina with the anti-Titan artillery to open the invasion, and from Gabi's report he assembles the answer nobody in Marley had: Paradis has a Titan of royal blood and it is Zeke. Orders go out to keep the brothers apart at any cost. Then he rides Pieck to the top of Wall Maria and puts his first round through the Attack Titan's head.
The Apology at the Harbour
The night before, he told the islanders that every fear the world ever had of them has been proved right. The next day he learns the Rumbling has already reached Marley and he breaks Yelena's arm trying to make her talk. Hange talks him down — and Magath apologises to the Eldians in the room for all of it, asking only that they bear what he is about to do.
He Stayed With the Ship
With the flying boat away, he stays behind to destroy the Marleyan cruiser at the quay so nothing can follow it. Keith Shadis finds him and stays too. Told he will be remembered as a man who helped save the world, Magath refuses the word — he knows what uniform he wore — and says instead that he is sorry his Warriors never got to live like children. Then the magazine goes up.
