Profile
Ymir is a trainee of the 104th Cadet Corps known for her sharp tongue, blunt attitude, and tendency to speak her mind without concern for appearances. Although she often acts cynical and distant, she shows a strong awareness of the people around her and forms a close bond with Krista Lenz during their training.
Worshipped as a Child
As a child, Ymir was worshipped by a group who claimed she descended from the king. Their faith ended in horror when soldiers seized everyone involved and executed them, leaving her with nothing of the life she had known.
Regains Her Human Form
After the executions, Ymir wandered for years as the Jaw Titan, a mindless giant with no awareness of the time passing, until she collapsed beneath the earth. Chance finally led a group of young Warriors to that place, and acting only on instinct she emerged and devoured one of them — the young man whose power returned her at last to human form.
A Fate Like Her Own
Living inside the Walls, Ymir once overheard members of the Church of the Walls speak of a powerful man who had forced his illegitimate daughter to abandon her identity and enlist under a false name. Certain that she and this hidden girl shared a similar fate, she resolved to look out for Krista Lenz.
Chooses the Survey Corps
After completing training with the 104th Cadet Corps, Ymir chooses to join the Scout Regiment rather than seek safer service within the walls. The decision places her among the recruits willing to face the uncertainty beyond human territory, though she treats the choice with her usual blunt reserve.
Transforms at Castle Utgard
With the recruits cornered atop the tower of Castle Utgard, Ymir reminds Krista Lenz of their promise, leaps into the swarm of Pure Titans and cuts her hand to transform into the Jaw Titan. She reveals the power she had hidden since her cadet days and fights through the night to protect her comrades.
Chooses to Leave with the Warriors
As the Scout Regiment closes in during the battle for Eren Yeager, Ymir makes her final choice and withdraws alongside Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover. Turning her back on the walls to keep Krista Lenz safe, she leaves with a plea that Krista live proudly under her own name.
Her Final Letter to Historia
With Reiner beside her and punishment waiting at the end of the road, Ymir writes one last letter to Historia. She leaves Historia the truth of the nameless child, the decades spent as a Titan and the second life she tried to live without regret. At the end she admits the only regret that remains: not being able to marry her.
She Went Home Inside Someone Else
She crossed back over the sea to give the Jaw Titan up, and Marley fed her to Porco Galliard. Everything she was goes with it: her childhood as a false goddess, sixty years as a mindless Titan, the island, the girl. It is through her memories that the Warriors work out that the Reiner who came home was wearing a dead man's personality.
