  1. Profile

Bertholdt Hoover is a towering, taciturn trainee of The 104th Cadet Corps whose silence and reserved bearing set him apart from his peers. He is often observed standing beside Reiner Braun and Annie Leonhart during drills and marches, moving with steady, unobtrusive endurance that draws quiet curiosity from classmates such as Eren Yeager and Armin Arlert. Behind the walls he presents an inscrutable calm, a presence noted more for its stillness than for words.

  2. Revealed by S4·E3

    He Picked Reiner Up

The friendship that decides everything starts with a small candidate on the ground and Porco Galliard walking away from him. Bertholdt helps Reiner to his feet, and the two of them are inseparable from that afternoon.

  3. Revealed by S4·E3

He Was Handed the Colossal Titan

Years of ranking seven children against each other end with a list read out on the parade ground, and the largest power Marley has goes to the candidate who never once asked for it. Bertholdt takes the Colossal Titan without argument and has the use of it almost immediately, which nobody else manages. The same list gives him thirteen years to live.

  4. Revealed by S2·E10

    Watches Marcel Be Devoured

The Warriors' first night on Paradis ends when the Pure Titan that was once Ymir erupts beneath their camp. Bertholdt watches Marcel knock Reiner out of its reach and get caught in his place. The attack is over before Bertholdt can act: Marcel is devoured, and he continues toward the Walls with Annie and the boy their comrade died to save.

  5. Revealed by S4·E3

He Asked Whether He Could Do It

Standing at the foot of Wall Maria on the night of the operation, with Marcel already dead and Reiner deciding for all of them that they will go on, the boy holding the weapon asks out loud whether he can actually do this. Then he does it, and the story everyone else is in begins.

  6. Revealed by S3·E15

    Abandons Marco Without His Gear

When Marco overhears the truth in Trost, Bertholdt helps corner him and watches Reiner force Annie to strip away his maneuvering gear. Marco keeps asking why they will not speak to him, but Bertholdt gives no answer. He leaves his classmate unarmed before a Titan and remains there while Marco is devoured.

  7. Revealed by S1·E16

    Choosing the Survey Corps

After graduating from The 104th Cadet Corps, Bertholdt Hoover relinquishes the safer path toward the Military Police and chooses continued service against the Titans. For a soldier known for silence and reserve, the decision places him among those willing to face danger beyond the security of rank and inner walls.

  8. Revealed by S1·E17

    Long-Range Formation

During the 57th Expedition Outside the Walls, Bertholdt Hoover serves within the Scouts’ long-range formation, advancing beyond the walls as part of a structure built to detect threats and preserve the main body of the force. His presence places his quiet endurance inside one of humanity’s most dangerous military operations.

  10. Revealed by S2·E7

Transforms During the Battle for Eren

After joining Reiner Braun in his attempt to seize Eren Yeager, Bertholdt Hoover reveals himself as the Colossal Titan during the ensuing battle. 11. Revealed by S2·E9

Takes Refuge in the Forest of Giant Trees

After escaping with Eren Yeager, Bertholdt Hoover withdraws into the Forest of Giant Trees alongside Reiner Braun and Ymir. 12. Revealed by S2·E12

    Retreats After the Clash

During the struggle to retain Eren Yeager, Bertholdt Hoover is visibly shaken when Armin Arlert invokes Annie Leonhart. Forced to abandon Eren, the two ultimately withdraw together from the battlefield.

  13. Revealed by S3·E15

    Refuses Armin's Last Offer

Thrown into Shiganshina inside a barrel, Bertholdt lands beside the broken Reiner and asks him to lie on his back before the transformation. Armin tries one final negotiation, but Bertholdt refuses: he has decided that none of them are wrong and that everyone inside the Walls must still die. The boy who apologized for everything transforms without another apology.

  14. Revealed by S3·E17

    Burns Armin and Misses Eren

Bertholdt pours the Colossal Titan's steam into Armin until his former classmate is burned beyond recognition. Convinced the sacrifice has achieved nothing, he stops only after the body falls.
