The Fall of Shiganshina

On a clear morning a towering humanoid, the Colossal Titan, appears over Wall Maria in the Shiganshina District and smashes the outer gate, tearing open a breach. Dozens of smaller Titans pour through the opening and into the town, crushing buildings and spreading panic through streets that moments before had been at peace.

Among the witnesses are Eren Yeager, Mikasa and Armin Arlert. In the chaos Carla Yeager is seized and killed by a nearby smiling Titan while Hannes tries to help but cannot reach her in time, and Eren is dragged away as his mother is devoured before his eyes.

Grisha Yeager and the other residents flee as Pure Titans roam the streets. The breach brings down Shiganshina and forces the survivors to withdraw behind the inner walls; the morning leaves a deep wound in everyone who saw it and turns the young survivors' grief into a cry for revenge.
