Profile
The Armored Titan is a towering and fearsome Titan distinguished by the hardened plates that cover much of its body, giving it the appearance of living armor. Its overwhelming strength and resilience have made it one of the most feared Titans known within the Walls.
The Second Breach
During The Fall of Shiganshina, it became known as the force that breached Wall Maria, an act that shattered a long era of security and opened the way for countless Pure Titans.
Reiner's Identity Revealed
During Reiner and Bertholdt Reveal Themselves, the Armored Titan is identified as the Titan form of Reiner Braun. The revelation connects the Titan responsible for breaching Wall Maria with one of the soldiers who had fought alongside humanity.
Battle Against the Attack Titan
The Armored Titan clashes directly with Attack Titan, relying on its hardened armor to withstand powerful blows and dominate the battle through sheer strength and endurance. As the fight continues, its advantage begins to fade when its opponent adopts close-quarters grappling techniques, forcing the Armored Titan to call upon the Colossal Titan for support.
Failed Retreat with Eren and Ymir
The Armored Titan attempts to escape while carrying Eren Yeager and Ymir. The retreat is cut short when Eren unleashes a mysterious power that drives nearby Pure Titans into a coordinated assault, forcing the Armored Titan to abandon its escape.
Buried Inside Wall Maria
The Armored Titan erupts from a cavity inside Wall Maria after Armin Arlert discovers Reiner hiding there. It survives Levi's opening strike and transforms inside the district while the Beast Titan closes the Scouts' escape behind them.
Armor Broken by Thunder Spears
Pinned by the Attack Titan, the Armored Titan is surrounded by Hange Zoë's squads. Their new Thunder Spears blast away the plates around its eyes and nape, then destroy its head, proving that human weapons can finally open the armor that once broke Wall Maria.
Blasted Out Through the Mouth
After the Armored Titan recovers and corners the remaining Scouts, Hange and Connie break the hinges of its jaw with Thunder Spears. Mikasa fires the last spear into its open mouth, blasting Reiner out of the nape and ending the fight before he can reach Eren.
Marley's Shield
The name Marley gives it is not Armor, it is the Shield. Its file is one line long: it specialises in hardening, and at a full-speed charge the gate of any wall comes down. What the file is really describing is a soldier whose job is to stand in front of artillery so that the expensive Titans behind him do not have to.
Artillery Goes Straight Through
The armour that shrugged off a Colossal Titan's transformation blast is not enough for the world's new guns. At Fort Slava it is held back in an airship until the anti-Titan artillery is destroyed, because one 150mm round would end it — and when the Mid-East fleet fires anyway, it is torn apart getting between them and the Beast Titan.
The Plates Did Not Come
In the ruins of the plaza its holder is awake, unhurt and unwilling to move, and when two children screaming for help finally get him up, what stands out of the rubble has no armour on it anywhere. It fights that way, and it is still enough to take the Attack Titan off Galliard. Whatever grows the plates this Titan is named for, it is not automatic.
Hardened Shut Around Him
The Attack Titan does not break it in Shiganshina. It hardens it shut instead, sealing the body around its own holder until the thing is a statue upright in the middle of a battle, holding nothing and unable to open — and then leaves it there. It is taken out of the decisive battle of the war without a scratch on it, by an enemy who never needed to break it at all.
The Founder Can Crumble It
There is a weakness in it that no enemy could ever have exploited, because it does not belong to the enemy. Whoever holds the Founding Titan can simply decide that this Titan's hardened skin stops existing, and it falls off — leaving the one of the Nine built entirely around not being hurt standing there with nothing on.
The Armour on the Other Side
Eleven years after it came over Wall Maria to open a district, it stands in a harbour on Paradis and fights the island's own soldiers — beside the Female Titan, covering foreign mechanics repairing an aircraft, so that somebody can catch the boy holding the Founder. The Titan built to break walls spends its last battles defending the people who lived behind them.
It Would Not Stay Down
At Fort Salta it fights the last battle already ruined — bitten open by a Titan that used to be its holder's closest friend, then charged by the transformed civilians of its own city, its holder's mother among them. It gets up for all of it. It is the only one of the Nine still standing when the power ends.
