The Female Titan is an unusual Titan encountered beyond the walls during a Survey Corps operation. Unlike ordinary Pure Titans, it displays exceptional speed, intelligence, and the ability to react strategically in battle. Its human-like behavior and precise movements make it a dangerous and mysterious threat unlike most Titans previously faced by humanity.
Handed Out on a Parade Ground
Long before it appears beyond the Walls, this power belongs to Marley and is given away to children: the Female Titan goes to Annie Leonhart on the same morning the Armored, the Colossal and the Jaw go to three others. What comes with it is thirteen years, and then a new holder.
First Appearance During the 57th Expedition
During the 57th Expedition Outside the Walls, the Female Titan appears beyond the walls and breaks through the Survey Corps formation with alarming speed and purpose. Its assault devastates the right flank, forcing Armin Arlert, Jean Kirstein, and Reiner Braun into direct contact with a threat unlike the ordinary Titans encountered in the field.
Captured in the Forest Trap
After changing course toward the center of the 57th Expedition Outside the Walls, the Female Titan pursues the unit carrying Eren. Its advance leads it into a prepared trap, where the Survey Corps immobilizes it with a concentrated barrage of restraints and briefly turns the hunter into the captive.
Escape from Capture and Kills Gunther
While the Female Titan is restrained, Hange Zoë attempts to obtain information from it, but the captive gives nothing away. It then releases a piercing cry that draws numerous Pure Titans to the site, allowing its Titan body to be consumed and creating the confusion needed for the intruder to escape. Disguised in Survey Corps gear, the enemy later reaches the unit protecting Eren and kills Gunther Schultz with a sudden strike.
Defeats Eren and Escapes
After killing the members of Levi's Special Operations Squad, the Female Titan draws Eren Yeager into a furious Titan battle. It defeats him, takes his human body from the nape, and attempts to flee before Mikasa Ackerman and Levi intercept it. Their counterattack recovers Eren, but the Female Titan escapes the pursuit.
Annie Unmasked and Sealed Away
During the Assault on Stohess, the Female Titan is revealed to be Annie Leonhart. She transforms in an attempt to escape, triggering a destructive battle against the Attack Titan inside Stohess District. After being defeated, Annie prevents her capture at the final moment by sealing herself inside a hardened crystal.
Four Years in the Crystal
The shell she closed over herself under Stohess holds for four years in a cellar under the Military Police, with one guard who talks to it out of boredom and then out of habit. Nobody on the island can open it. It comes apart from the inside, in the week the Walls do, and Annie steps out having heard every word.
It Fought for the Other Side
The Titan that killed a generation of Scouts outside the Walls transforms next in a Paradis harbour, against Paradis soldiers, next to the Armored Titan — covering the mechanics who are repairing the aircraft that will chase Eren. The hardening that made it unkillable in the forest is now on the alliance's side of the fight.
The Last Thing It Held Off
At Fort Salta it stands with the Cart and the Armored Titan against an army of transformed civilians, holding the thing that came out of Eren's spine away from him for as long as three exhausted shifters can. It is the last fight the Female Titan ever has, and it is on behalf of an island she was sent to destroy.
